According to Gartner Research, the demand for connected devices will surge to one trillion by 2040. Research further indicated that there will be US $166 billion invested in the IoT industry by 2020. The tremendous opportunities afforded by the IoT and driven by the rapid development in sensor technologies like micro computing systems, and wireless communication standards, means that sensor device platforms will become a key element in enabling the connected world. However, right now there are no open standards for sensor devices and all the devices makers design their own products with their own form factors, which does not encourage the widespread deployment of IoT. The Low Power Wi-Fi  IoT Node - WISE-1520 - is the first module supporting M2.COM sensor platform.

The current discussions about IoT standards are mainly focused on wireless coupling and secure internet communication / cloud hosting. An unique sensor/actor interface to the communication processor however will be not be picked as a central theme. The consequence are countless of parallel developments and just as many isolated applications. A free and manufacturer-independent usage of an IoT coupler with various sensors/actors frontends is almost not possible. These missing incompatible results in less flexibility and particular a low investment protection for the customer. The lecture will present a free, low cost, open source bus system with low energy consumption and auto configuration mechanism.

Further demands like "plug and produce" and "track and trace" are becoming basic requirements. This paper presents a highly secure cloud-enabled Industrial IoT suite. This EUROS Industrial IoT suite is built around standards like OPC UA and TLS 1.3 and includes an IEC 61131-compliant SoftPLC solution, using a HTML5 as programming interface. Since the implemented security mechanisms operate without using gateways, this suite provides the highest possible end-to-end level of security.
